Teenpiple with Tokha
Description
Set off on a bike ride around Kathmandu, total ride time approximately 4 – 5 hours; 30 – 35 km. The ride takes you through the north of the Kathmandu Valley, departing from the hotel after breakfast at around 8 am. Riders will need to navigate traffic on the roads for about 2 km before an easy 4 km climb on a paved road up to Mudkhu pass. Mudkhu is every cyclist’s favorite place for tea (chiya) and a chat, and you may meet some locals cycling enthusiasts here. From here we head up on a 1 km single track with a drop on the right side and then coming down to a jeep track towards Tinpiple. Please note; those who are not experienced enough to do single tracks have an option to go on a jeep track from opposite of Nagarjun forest entrance. This jeep track also comes to Tinpiple.
While you are riding, enjoy the beautiful scenes of terraced fields of rice paddies, mustard, corn and various vegetables depending on seasons. Teenpiple literally means three Pipal Trees. We take a dirt road beyond Tinpiple riding along the foothills of Shivapuri National Park forest and into the beautiful paddy field mostly on single track or off road. Then we ride up to a beautiful place called Tokha from where you can see superb view of Kathmandu valley. Tokha village – one of the oldest settlements of Newar in Kathmandu Valley. We will ride by Bhimsen Temple (a deity worshipped for his strength and courage), Kali temple and village cremation grounds. Afterwards we head to down to ring road and Kathmandu.
Please note: This route is a cross country ride so please bear in mind not to expect only downhill or flat tracks. This route is ideal for expert and intermediate riders.
